HIP Week 2022- Caring for Health Information

This week is Health Information Professionals (HIP) Week! HIP Week is put on by AHIMA and aims to celebrate individuals and organizations who ensure health stories remain accurate, accessible, and protected.

AHIMA’s goal is to transform healthcare by connecting people, systems, and ideas. The root of this goal is health information. For HIP Week this year, AHIMA will leverage their knowledge and expertise of health information to help influence policy to benefit patients, communities, clinicians, and stakeholders. This week’s agenda focuses on:

1.) Improving the Patient Health Journey through Access to Information, Privacy, and Equity

2.) Ensuring the Quality and Integrity of Health Information

3.) Advancing Healthcare Transformation

Improving the Patient Health Journey through Access to Information, Privacy, and Equity

This pillar focus on how improving access to information for patients and their caregivers, protecting patient privacy, and advancing equity are foundational to transforming healthcare.

Ensuring the Quality and Integrity of Health Information

The second pillar focuses on the accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of information. All of these are fundamental if we hope to transform healthcare because maintaining data quality begins with accurately matching a patient to information, which is the key to being able to communicate accurately and effectively.

Advancing Healthcare Transformation

Evolving consumer expectations, advancing technology, and shifts in value-based care models all rely on high quality data and quality measures. Those measures, combined with pursuing better information workflows, integrating clinical and administrative data, and improving interoperability, will drive transformation in healthcare into the future.
