Looking Ahead to the Court Technology Conference

We are less than one month away from CTC 2023 in Phoenix, AZ September 12th through the 14th!

The opening keynote will be delivered by the host of Tech Nation, Dr. Moira Gunn. Tech Nation and its regular segment, BioTech Nation, air on National Public Radio and in separate podcast streams. Dr. Gunn’s work focuses on the good and bad of what AI is doing with Big Data. Her keynote will address the impacts and implications of innovative technology through a lens that’s useful to courts.

Orange County Superior Courts will showcase their efforts to implement AI and Machine Learning into their e-filing, workflow automation, and redaction processes. They chose to partner with Microsoft on their efforts and implemented a number of solutions including Azure SQL Server, Azure Databricks, Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft Forms Recognizer, Power Apps, and SharePoint Online.

The Maricopa County Clerk’s office will discuss how they are using AI to improve access to the court. They will highlight the use of AI (IBM Watson) for a virtual assistant, including replacement of traditional IVR with NLP.  As well as using robotic process automation to automate the docketing of new court filings leveraging data from Intelligent Capture (OCR of paper filings).

These are only three examples of great presentations (all on Day 1!) slated for this year’s conference. There are sessions on Day 2 discussing the uses and ethical implication of Chat GPT and other AI tools, another on Technology Enhanced Courtrooms, and one focused on how to handle data requests. Day 3 kicks-off with a session on cyber hot topics and concludes with one showcasing ways courts utilize technology to enhance User Experience (UX). They will share the winners (and losers) from a contest that asked courts to submit projects that either improved user experience or fell short of expectations. For a complete schedule of events so the conference agenda Agenda – CTC 2023 (courttechnologyconference.org).

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the vendors. The tradeshow consists of nearly 100 vendors. You are sure to find something that can benefit your court. See the floorplan and list of exhibitors here: EXPOCAD FX. For those attending I look forward to seeing you at the conference. For those that aren’t there is still time. Extract will be in booth #102 Extract Systems – one of the first booths on the right when you enter the tradeshow floor.

Extract’s software automates both redaction and indexing processes for courts to protect and file information more quickly and accurately.
