Everyone is Relying on Everyone Else’s Data
The 2017 UNOS Transplant Management Forum
Next week, the UNOS Transplant Management Forum takes place in Orlando. It is a remarkable environment, where administrators and other transplant leaders come together to discuss ideas, share their expertise and thoughts on best practices. The panelists and attendees focus a lot of their energy and attention creating open floor discussions. Everyone is there to give valuable insights and gain useful knowledge, making them better in their field and an asset to their at home Transplant community.
There are many demands that are placed on the transplant industry. Offering quality care to their patients, while being able to have the metrics to ensure this is taking place is top priority. Second to that, making sure that they are accurately collecting and reporting data for compliance and quality purposes is key.
Data in the Transplant World
Transplant centers are constantly processing, collecting, using, and sharing data. This happens in several different ways. Data is administered between centers and OPOs, and centers and compliance organizations. This data is the central connection of the industry. Everyone relies on everyone else’s data to work together and create waitlists, share organ data, and report outcomes. All these different data centers are cogs in a big wheel, without one of them, the other would not work.
Communities like the one formed at the UNOS Transplant Management Forum are essential for starting the conversation of how to improve processes revolving around the transplant industry. One of the ways that the process of sharing data can be improved is by Extract Systems.
Extract Systems is focused on continuous improvement efforts to help Transplant Centers improve the collection, availability and reporting of data, such as lab results and other clinical data. Our solution translates information that arrives as faxes, scanned documents, or from other unstructured sources into discrete data within the EMR that can be trended and reported on.
Extract Systems is excited to have Duke Transplant Center share their experiences and best practices with other centers, and to talk about how they solved the problem of external lab results being stuck in faxes and scanned documents.
