The Show Must Go On – Virtually
COVID has changed almost every aspect of life and tradeshows are not immune. According to the Center for Exhibition Research, there were about 9,400 business to business (B2B) tradeshows held in the United States during 2019 which contributed to approximately $101 billion to the U.S.’s gross national product (GDP). But as the COVID-19 virus spread across the nation those events were brought to a complete halt.
Over the last year, much of the world has wondered when we can all get back to our ‘normal,’ including tradeshows. The short answer is its going to be a while, even with proper guidelines in place such as social distancing, hand washing, and mask wearing, it’s unknown when events like the ones we saw in 2019 will take place again.
The New ‘Tradeshow’:
The issue with tradeshows is the same as with meetings- they are no longer in-person. Just like the majority of us have adapted to virtual meetings, we’ve also adapted to large virtual tradeshows and conferences. There is a definite need for tradeshows- it allows attendees to gain greater knowledge on an industry (software, products, etc.) as well as giving the opportunity to earn continuing education credits (CEUs) than many industries require. That is why we launched our HealthyData Virtual Academy in the Fall of 2020 where we hosted a variety of healthcare professionals to speak on hot topics circling the industry all while offering FREE AHIMA approved CEU credits. We had such an overwhelmingly positive response that we are hosting another event on February 10th.
