Sourdough Starters and the Post-Quarantine World
We have all marveled at the profound way the world changed over the past few months due to COVID-19. These were changes forced upon us under very unfortunate circumstances. Some changes have been very painful to many people. So, it is with great relief that most of us have embarked on the long process of returning to normal.
Yet, for all the pain, many of these changes turned out to be a blessing. Personally, I will miss the unique opportunity of being able to take lunchtime walks as a whole family. While quarantine didn’t solve periodic squabbling for us, it did allow our pre/early teen kids to reconnect in ways they haven’t in years (and in ways that will surely never happen again).
As the world now slowly emerges from isolation, there are opportunities to turn some of those changes into lasting changes for the better. On the home front, how many invested in gardens and sourdough starters that will provide scrumptious new sandwich possibilities well beyond the days of quarantine? That is certainly the case at our house.
Similar opportunities exist on the business side of things. Working from home necessitated that most companies find new ways implementing old processes. Some of these processes, like the virtual company meetings, may be fading away. But now is an excellent time to consider whether some of those changes can serve as a “sourdough starter” for permanent process improvements.
For example, your business may have found it necessary to scan many hardcopy documents that previously had been dropped on someone’s desk. Such changes need not remain a temporary workaround– they could be the catalyst for a much more valuable process. Extract Systems provides solutions that can automatically classify scanned documents, automatically route the documents to the appropriate parties, automatically index the documents for easy retrieval and generate reports and dashboards and show trends in the documents and their data over time.
Whether or not Extract can help leverage a “sourdough starter” for your business, we do encourage you to find such opportunities wherever they may have been created in your business over the past few months. We wish you both success and health as you do so. Good luck and be safe!
