See You in Orlando

April 6, 2017

As the 2017 UNOS Transplant Management Forum rapidly approaches, I’ve been reflecting on the impact Extract has made with our transplant customers over the last year. It seems like yesterday that I was writing my reflections on UNOS TMF 2016 (you can read that here). Since that time, we’ve gone live with several reputable transplant centers and seen drastic improvements in workflow with several of our existing customers.

For example, we had one major transplant center upgrade to our latest release and see a 148% increase in their lab entry efficiency, as well as a 7% increase in auto-population of result fields by our software. This was accomplished by leveraging our latest Universal Ruleset, a bi-directional orders interface to match existing orders, and automatic flagging of duplicate faxes. Considering that this efficiency gain was on top of their already improved rates from their Epic workflows at time of go-live, the overall impact to their department has been drastic. By doing a brief survey of the users, the nurse manager reported that “they could never go back.”

We’ve improved our ability to report the accuracy of our software (and individual users) by breaking out accuracy rates by field, resulting agency, user, and more. Paired with our streamlined QA process, it has become more possible to target specific documents and users when assessing ways to further reduce the effort of getting the lab values into the system.

Our latest release has introduced full support for document classification and indexing, which we are very excited about. As a result, we are on the verge of going live with our first implementation of this incoming fax, document classification, and EMR routing solution. We are looking forward to working with transplant centers in the near future to implement a very similar solution to handle all of their incoming faxes, including referral packets. By leveraging our machine-learning driven auto-pagination feature and the ability to link documents to patients, encounters, and orders, we are confident that we’ll further improve the ability for transplant departments to focus on patient care instead of drowning in unstructured data.

We have worked with a number of transplant centers to improve the ability to calculate the return on investment of purchasing our software.

I look forward to seeing you in Orlando!
