Overcoming HIM Challenges Through Automation

September 26, 2019

Last week, Extract attended AHIMA’s Health Data and Information Conference in Chicago.  The conference was a great opportunity to meet with industry colleagues, partners, and experts in the field of healthcare.  In addition to these groups, we were also treated to inspirational speakers like Carey Lohrenz, the first female F-14 Tomcat Fighter Pilot in the US Navy.  Ms. Lorenz headlined a well-attended general session that got conference goers fired up about leadership.

One of the great opportunities we had this year was to participate in the Expert Theater program.  Formerly known as Product World, and perhaps more of a company advertisement in the past, this 50 minute session allowed us to present to AHIMA attendees on an important and educational topic, offering CEU credits to those who attended.

In order for us to make the session an educational experience rather than just a sales pitch, we reached out to two of our customers that have extensive first-hand knowledge of the HIM space: Wyntis Hall, the Director of Health Information Services at Hurley Medical Center and Beth Olson, Director of Information Service Support at Essentia Health.  These two impressive women were able to detail what their processes used to look like, and how they were able to harness automation to improve efficiency and reduce errors.

While the panel hit on the automation benefits that Extract’s HealthyData Platform provided these organizations, the panelists also dove into integrations with electronic medical records systems, benchmarking, and even the reality of how things like automation can affect staff reassignments.

It was clear from attendance numbers that moving to a more educational format and hitting on an important industry topic was productive, and something attendees were interested in.
