Let your MIPS Flow into Your EMR

May 18, 2017

The Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) has been in place for over 4 months now. It consolidated and improved Meaningful Use, PQRS, and VBPM and added some new Improvement Activities to your to-do list. By all accounts, it’s a better system that will hopefully improve the healthcare we receive across the nation. But that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been a lot of work!

You spent the last quarter of 2016 scrambling to understand how it was different from MU and PQRS and to make sure you could report your measures appropriately. You have probably continued to do so during these first few months of 2017 as you’ve tweaked your processes and your measures. Based on what we’re hearing from CMIO’s, you’ve also discovered that a lot of data that would help you meet some measures is buried in scanned documents instead of being readily available for direct reporting.

This is really no different than the challenges you had in 2016 and before

But, it’s become harder for you to come to terms with the fact that in 2017 much of the meaningful data you want is still hard to get, regardless of whether you’re using Epic, eClinicalWorks, Cerner, Allscripts or any other EMR.

In addition, despite what EMR vendors want to admit, you’re receiving more faxes than ever before. I’ve sat in clinics watching MA’s drown in faxes. Summaries of Care, Outside Records, External Imaging and Lab Results, Consult Letters, and more! Coincidentally, many of these documents are being faxed so the sending organization can meet one of their MIPS measures!

The Extract platform can help you with all of this. If there is data within any of these faxed documents, or even within internal documents, we can help you retrieve it and get it where it should be.

Extract can:

  • Process all of your incoming faxes and automatically identify their document types

  • Allow you to easily link incoming faxes to orders or encounters in your EMR

  • Automatically link to the appropriate patient

  • Retrieve discrete Ejection Fraction % values from Echo reports

  • Retrieve discrete HbA1C results from outside documents

  • Be configured to retrieve additional discrete data for MIPS reporting based on your specific needs

We can do all of this and more! Allow us to find the data you need and get it to where it needs to be, so you can focus on the real objective of MIPS: improving patient care.

If you have an idea for how we can help you complete any of your MIPS measures or alleviate your incoming document woes, reach out to us and let’s chat!
