Support for Document Classification and Indexing
With our 10.5 software release we formally introduced a lot of the features we’ve been humming about for the last several months in regards to document classification and indexing. We are really excited about what these features will do to assist our existing departmental customers to expand the Extract platform outside of lab, orders, and pathology workflows. And we are really excited when we think of how these workflows will improve EMR workflows, adoption, and patient care when they are rolled out across the healthcare enterprise. So what’s so special? Keep reading to find out.
The platform leverages machine learning and our other proven algorithms to process all faxed or scanned documents across your organization to determine the type of document, extract the relevant information from the document, and route it to the correct location within the EMR. This includes EMR integration to facilitate linking the documents to existing encounters and orders or even choosing the appropriate encounter type or procedure to create on the fly when an existing record isn’t present.
This decreases the time and effort required to triage documents, improves accuracy, and, most importantly, makes finding information in patients’ charts far easier for clinicians. Many of our existing lab customers work in transplant or a single department. This functionality was designed with these workflows in mind as well. While the platform has already automated much of the process of extracting meaningful data from lab documents, these departments are still burdened with the many other documents that arrive by fax and are scanned each day. This solution, in combination with the lab workflows, will add another layer of automation to recognizing, classifying, indexing, and routing those documents with other valuable data to the EMR or other location.
