Data-Driven Decisions In Healthcare
Analytics have proven very important for any business decisions, providing decision makers with important and relevant facts, making decisions clearer and more confident. The healthcare industry is no different, where analytics have been proven very effective in improving clinical, financial, and operational performance.
A recent study, HIMSS Analytics and Dimensional Insight, where 109 senior healthcare executives were surveyed, found that nearly 85 percent of organizations that are currently leveraging analytics are doing so in more than one area, with two-thirds of respondents leveraging analytic tools in financial, operational, and clinical areas.
It was also reported that clinical areas have the highest overall success rate, with 78 percent. The use of analytics drives down readmission rates, improves patient outcome improvements, and aids in infection control and reduction.
When choosing to implement an analytic solution, most organizations felt motivated to do so to determine ROI, have the ability to follow clinical outcomes, and improve staff efficiency.
Here at Extract, our mission is to improve patient care and reduce the cost of healthcare by delivering data to the electronic medical record so that physicians can quickly diagnose and treat patients. We have created a solution, HealthyData, that reads documents like a human does. The software quickly determines the document type which indicates the type of data that the document contains. It extracts the critical information, then structures and delivers the data to the appropriate downstream system. The software can file discrete data at the patient, order, and encounter level. Understanding just how valuable analytic information is to healthcare, we created an Analytics Dashboard as a piece of our HealthyData solution. The dashboard is both dynamic and customizable, allowing for users to drill-down into individual pieces of information. Users can also set up filters without the need to keep running separate reports. With the new dashboard, users also can navigate directly into individual files to see the sources of the data.
Shown above is just one example of what our dashboard can be configured to look like. Depending on your organization’s wants and needs, different modules can be added or removed to give you an efficient way to look into the data you need.
Module options include, but are not limited to, user productivity, active time spent, document type processed, day of week processed, document page count, overall accuracy, attribute accuracy, department accuracy, document type accuracy, accuracy by submitter, document names, time to EMR by location, and time to EMR (overall).
