Tech Trends to Watch in 2020

Like a lot of other industries, healthcare is being transformed by the ‘latest and greatest’ technologies. Expanding and growing upon current technologies will allow the industry to better optimize operations and, in turn, hopefully allow them to deliver high quality patient care. Here are four tech trends that look to make headway 2020.

AI and Machine Learning

Artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine learning (ML) have been commonly known for their ability to have a machine operate or perform tasks. As healthcare continues to evolve so does the technology. AI and ML can automate tasks and analyze patient data for better and faster healthcare at a lower cost than the traditional manual workflow.  An easy example is chat bots, patients can enter in minor issues such as their symptoms into a chat and get real time answers or care suggestions.

AI and ML can also be utilized for enhanced security- the technology can recognize unusual behaviors, identify fraud threats, and predict malware attacks.

Wearable Tech

Wearable fitness tech has come along way in the last five years. It can do so much more than just keeping a tally of your daily steps- it can monitor your temperature, heart rhythms and rate, some devices are equipped
with ECG and blood pressure monitors, and more.

5G

More health organizations are providing telehealth services, which is great for general office visits or if you live in a rural area. As this benefit grows in popularity, health centers need their networks to support the increased bandwidth. 5G is better able to support these healthcare organizations by allowing for large image and video files to be communicated between patients and doctors in a fraction of the time of current networks.

Virtual / Augmented Reality

While you might think of PlayStation when you hear VR or AR… it’s finding its way into the healthcare space. Some organizations are currently using this technology as a way to help with its memory care patients- allowing them to ‘visit’ common places, such as their hometown, family vacation sports, local restaurants, etc.

All of these technologies offer great advancement opportunities for healthcare organizations to provide better care to its patients and keep up with ever growing demand.

Here at Extract, we believe in continuing to innovate and improve on technology to make healthcare better for everyone. We help healthcare organizations automate workflows and expedite the process of getting documents and data into the EHR (or other downstream systems).
